Protesters fill Bajaur’s streets again

Thousands come out to demand an end to lawlessness, target killings

BAJAUR:

Thousands of tribesmen took to the streets on Tuesday, demanding an end to extortion, targeted attacks, bomb blasts and unrest in the Bajaur tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The protestors also opposed any possible military operation in the district and said past operations left thousands of families displaced or homeless. They bemoaned that terrorism still existed despite the military action.

They later held a sit-in at district headquarters Khar and chanted slogans against the ongoing unrest and deteriorating peace situation in Bajaur.

Civil society members, lawyers, students, political activists and locals belonging to different walks of life participated in the protest.

The speakers said that unrest and terrorism will not be tolerated in Bajaur and we will not allow anyone to shed blood in the name of the religion. He said that it is the responsibility of the government and the state institutions to protect the citizens.
