Rainwater swamps most city areas

Water accumulated in different areas after showers in the city causing severe traffic jams besides hindering the swift flow of vehicles. In some areas water entered homes as well as ground floor apartments in some residential projects especially in the Safari Avenue.

Moreover, as many as 400 feeders tripped disrupting power supply to vast areas of the metropolis for hours showing the true picture of as usual mismanagement and poor network of the power utility provider.

Citizens faced hardship in reaching home as a large number of people had to walk for miles due to accumulation of rain water and traffic jams. Main arteries of the city including Sharea Faisal, Sakhi Hasan, Nagan Chawrangi, besides Gulshan-e-Iqbal 13D 2, Gurumandir, MA Jinnah Road, Korangi Expressway, Safora Chowrangi, Korangi Road, University Road, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Rashid Mihnas Road and Sarjani Town were the most affected.

Power shutdown was reported in areas including Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Sarjani Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Liaquatabad, Jamshed Road, Patel Para, Ramswamy, Ranchore Line, Lyari, Baldia Town and Orangi Town.

According to the Met Office, the city received moderate to heavy rainfall due to a new series of monsoon winds. The highest rainfall was recorded in Gadap Town with 42.4mm followed by Orangi Town with 26.4mm of rainfall. The highest rainfall during the last 24 hours was recorded in Surjani Town with 51mm.

On Tuesday afternoon, Malir, Azizabad, Hasan Square, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13, Gurumandir, Nipa Chowrangi, Clifton, Liaquatabad, Mehmoodabad, Garden West, Surjani, Gulistan-e-Johar, Ahsanabad, Gadap Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Scheme 33, North Karachi, FB Area, Lines Are, Muhammad Ali Society, Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi, Quaidabad and I.I. Chandragarr Road received light to moderate rain. The rain made the weather a bit pleasant.

As per the Early Warning Centre of the Meteorological Department, a series of strong monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea is affecting Sindh.

There are chances of light rains today (Wednesday) and this spell may persist till August 1. There is also a possibility of thundershowers in various districts of rural Sindh. The maximum temperature in the city on Tuesday was recorded at 33.8 degrees Celsius, while the humidity in the air remained at 82%.
