Court asks SSP, IO to produce witnesses in Tahir Plaza case

KARACHI:

The Special Anti-Terrorism Court has ordered the SSP and investigating officer (IO) in the Tahir Plaza fire case to produce witnesses at the next hearing. A special court in the Anti-Terrorism Complex in Karachi Central Jail heard the Tahir Plaza tragedy.

Jail authorities submitted a report stating that Saeed Bharam is detained in Central Jail and is serving a life term.

The witnesses of the case did not appear during the hearing. The court adjourned the hearing till August 8 due to non-appearance of witnesses.

According to the police, Saeed Bharam, Imran Saeed and Faisal Javed alias Mama are named in the case. Accused Imran Saeed had confessed to setting Tahir Plaza on fire in his 164 JIT statements. The accused torched Tahir Plaza on the orders of the then Karachi Tanzeeme Committee (KTC) Incharge of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Hammad Siddiqui.

The accused disclosed his involvement in the Tahir Plaza tragedy during the police investigation. The accused Faisal Mama was arrested in 2021. On April 9, 2008, six people, including a lawyer, died in Tahir Plaza fire. A case of the incident was registered in the Risala police station.
