Heavy rains in Punjab predicted to last until tomorrow

Due to of urban flooding from rains, the administration of major cities has been put on alert

After rain lashes most of the districts of Punjab, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PMDA) has predicted that the monsoon rains are likely to continue until tomorrow.

In the last 24 hours, rainfall occurred in Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Chakwal, Faisalabad, Khanpur, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, and Toba Tek Singh. In the next 24 hours, rain is expected in Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.

The PDMA spokesperson stated that the water flow in the rivers Indus, Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum, and Sutlej is at normal levels. The water level in Mangla Dam is at 58% and in Tarbela Dam at 70%. The water level in Indian dams on Pakistani rivers is at 39%.

Due to the risk of urban flooding from the rains, the administration of major cities has been put on alert. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary crossing of rivers and streams and to maintain a safe distance from power lines and poles.

The spokesperson added that the PDMA control room is monitoring the situation 24 hours a day. In case of an emergency, the residents are advised to contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
