Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's hearing to remove Brad Pitt’s last name postponed

A hearing scheduled for Monday regarding Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's request to remove her father's well-known surname was postponed due to technical issues.

The name change for the daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was postponed because "the court did not correctly finish the necessary background check,”a source informed Page Six.

Shiloh’s lawyer, Peter Levine, told us in a statement, “Unfortunately, the court was unable to complete the background check ahead of today’s hearing, so the hearing was rescheduled for August 19.”

The attorney added, “This is normal. Everyone undergoing a name-change request needs to have a background check conducted by the court clerk, and because of clerical error, Shiloh’s hearing has been continued to a new date.”

We previously reported that the teenager aims to change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.

She applied to legally remove “Pitt” from her surname on her 18th birthday in May and hired her own lawyer for the process.

The 18-year-old recently posted a notice in the Los Angeles Times announcing her decision to drop “Pitt” from her surname, as revealed by court documents obtained by Page Six.

The filing indicated that the notice was published in the newspaper on June 17, June 24, July 1, and July 8.

Pitt and Jolie have been involved in a lengthy and contentious divorce. A source previously informed People that the “Ocean’s 11” actor was “aware and upset” about the name change.

Under California law, an individual must publish a request in the notices section of a widely circulated newspaper.

The ex-couple’s other children have also stopped using his last name in public and at school functions.
