The much-anticipated return of Soldier Boy to 'The Boys' in Season 5 is not just for fan service; it's a strategic narrative move.

Showrunner Eric Kripke revealed at SDCC 2024 that the decision to bring back Jensen Ackles as the Captain America-esque Supe is rooted in the desire to delve deeper into the unexplored and complex father-son relationship with Homelander.

Season 3 only scratched the surface of this dysfunctional dynamic, with Soldier Boy's harsh rejection of Homelander. However, Kripke sees potential in exploring their shared animosity towards Billy Butcher, potentially leading to an unexpected alliance.

Soldier Boy's popularity among fans, evident in the ecstatic response to Ackles' surprise appearance at SDCC, further solidified the decision to bring him back. Kripke playfully acknowledged Ackles' appeal, joking about giving him a chance "despite his tragic ugliness."

With the stage set for a thrilling Season 5, fans can anticipate further exploration of the complex relationship between Soldier Boy and Homelander, adding another layer to the already intense and gripping storyline of 'The Boys.'
