National Assembly meets today

The National Assembly will meet here on Tuesday (today) to take up 43-point agenda, including the introduction of the Election Act amendment bills, and a constitutional amendment bill regarding the repeal of the law about the contempt of court.

This will be the first National Assembly session after the Supreme Court verdict of July 12 in favour of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). In following the apex court ruling, the Election Commission of Pakistan officially recognised 39 National Assembly members (MNAs) the PTI lawmakers.

The agenda of the assembly session was released on Monday. It said that two private members bills regarding amendments to the Election Act would be presented by Bilal Azhar Kayani and Zaib Jafar. Also, Noor Alam Khan would move the constitutional amendment bill.

According to the agenda released by the National Assembly Secretariat, the other bills to be introduced during the session include the bill to amend the Federal Employees Benevolent Fund and Group Insurance Act and the Islamabad Capital Territory Child Marriage Restraint Bill.

Besides, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon would move a bill to establish the Pakistan Examination Board and Sahibzada Sibghatullah would move the bill to repeal the West Pakistan Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance in its application to Islamabad Capital Territory.

Also the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawmakers, Nafisa Shah and Syed Naveed Qamar were expected to propose certain amendments to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, while Nikhat Shakeel Khan to move a resolution, seeking steps for reducing the Hajj expenses.
