An incident of alleged abuse and neglect was reported in the Civil Lines area of Rawalpindi on Monday, where elderly parents were tortured and evicted from their home by their son and daughters-in-law.
The elderly couple, unable to fend for themselves, sought refuge at their daughter's house. The incident came to light after a video surfaced, showing the elderly mother appealing to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for help.
Shahnaz Begum, 66, a resident of Dheri Hassanabad in the Civil Lines area, along with her 76-year-old ailing husband, appeared in the video pleading for intervention. In the video, Shahnaz Begum claimed that her sons had brutally beaten them and thrown them out of their home.
She also accused her daughters-in-law of making threats, including one who threatened to falsely accuse her by tearing her own clothes. As a result, the couple had no choice but to take shelter at their daughter's house.
Rawalpindi CPO Khalid Hamdani, upon seeing the video, took immediate action. The Civil Lines police were ordered to take necessary measures against the alleged perpetrators. On Shahnaz Begum's complaint, the police registered a case against the suspects.
According to the FIR, Shahnaz Begum and her husband lived in a small one-room house with their four sons. Despite living together, the sons showed no care for their elderly parents and subjected them to physical abuse. The situation escalated when Muhammad Ali, Kashif, and Saqib, along with their sister-in-law Samreen, forcibly evicted the elderly couple.
