Rain emergency declared in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi Commissioner Amir Khattak has declared a rain emergency following the Meteorological Department's forecast of heavy rain in Rawalpindi for the next two days. The Triple One Brigade's military unit has also been on alert, having assessed the low-lying areas of Nullah Leh, boats have been provided for potential rescue operations.

All leaves for employees of relevant departments have been cancelled and all five flood relief camps in the city have been activated.

Around 250 Civil Defense volunteers have been deployed in the low-lying areas on 24-hour shift duties, equipped with handheld danger alarm devices in case of power outages and life jackets for potential flooding situations.

Flood relief camps have been set up at Islamia Higher Secondary School No. 1 Murree, Islamia High School No. 4 Liaquat Bagh, Girls College New Katarian, Girls College Dhoke Hassu, Girls High School Bhoosa Godown Dhoke Ratta, and Girls College Gawalmandi. In these camps, the Revenue Department will provide food, the Education Department will arrange accommodation, the Health Department will offer medical assistance, and the police will ensure security.
