Japan will give about Rs7.4 million for the construction of a Primary School in Raziq Kalay in Khyber Agency, said a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan on Thursday.
The money will be given to Learning Awareness and Motivation Programme (LAMP).
The agreement for the project was signed on Thursday at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in Islamabad between Hiroshi OE, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, and Nawabzada Fazal Karim Afridi, Chief Executive of LAMP.
The grant will be utilised for the construction of a primary school comprising six classrooms, one office room and four toilets. In addition, desks and chairs will also be provided for the students.
Currently the students have no building and are facing hardships despite their desire to continue their studies. With this project, about 200 children will be able to study in a safe and comfortable learning environment. The proposed school has a capacity of accommodating 300 students, and the number of students is expected to increase in the future.
At the signing ceremony, Ambassador OE stressed that the provision of basic education to children is one of the priorities in Japan’s
assistance policy towards Pakistan.
He also expressed his hope that this project would give children a chance to carve out a better future would strengthen relations between the peoples of Japan and Pakistan.
