Pakistani woman crosses border to marry Indian lover

25-year-old Mehvish crosses into India to be with her lover Rehman, whom she met on Facebook

Following Seema Haider’s high-profile cross-border love story, another Pakistani woman has travelled to India to marry her lover, according to Indian media reports.

The Indian Express reported that a 25-year-old Pakistani woman named Mehvish crossed the border into India, arriving in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district to be with her lover, Rehman, whom she met on Facebook.

Mehvish was previously married to a man from Badami Bagh, Lahore. The couple divorced in 2018 after 12 years of marriage and have two sons, aged 12 and seven years old.

After her divorce, Mehvish connected with Rehman, a transporter working in Kuwait. The two proposed to each other on March 13, 2022, and married via video conference three days later. They later had an in-person marriage ceremony during Mehvish’s Umrah pilgrimage to Makkah in 2023.

Mehvish travelled from Islamabad to the Wagah border with her family on July 25. After her documents were checked by Pakistani and Indian authorities, she entered India on a 45-day tourist visa. Rehman’s family picked her up and brought her to their village, Pithisar.
