Workers led by National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) and Home Based Women Workers Federation (HBWWF) staged a protest outside Karachi Press Club against the illegal detention of Asad Iqbal Butt, Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).
Workers and human rights representatives participated in the protest and strongly condemned the undemocratic and unconstitutional actions of the police.
They demanded legal action against the involved officers and the immediate dismissal of the SHO of the Gulberg police station. They also called for the recovery of Comrade Rehman Baloch, who had been missing since July 24.
Zehra Khan, General Secretary of HBWWF, stressed that state institutions were attempting to suppress voices advocating for human rights, which was a clear violation of the Constitution.
Additionally, she mentioned the disappearance of Comrade Rehman Baloch a day earlier, which had caused great concern among human rights activists.
Aqib Hussain, an organizer from Alternate, expressed that the state's actions had incited significant anger among the youth.
