LAHORE:

Garbage tax is likely to be imposed in Punjab as cabinet standing committee on Finance and Development approved the proposal. However, it still requires cabinet's approval.

The garbage tax is being termed a part of a larger scheme of outsourcing solid waste management systems across Punjab.

According to a local government and community development department official, the standing committee has accorded approval to the tax collection for solid waste management system. Lending credence to the figures quoted by the media, he said the government intends to outsource the entire solid waste management system, including solid waste management companies, to private contractors.
