Minister hints at taking up court fee hike with Punjab

RAWALPINDI:

Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazir Tarar on Sunday said that he would discuss with the Punjab government the reversal of the significant increase in judicial stamps and court fees across the province.

Emphasising that he is a lawyer first and then the law minister, he said that he would play a role in rescinding this increase.

The minister made these remarks during a conversation with a delegation from the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Rawalpindi led by President Malik Jawad Khalid and Secretary General Shabbir Mirza. Terming this increase a cruel measure, the bar delegates warned that if the increase was not reversed, they would have no option but to protest.

The HCBA’s president said that the federal minister listened to their requests in detail and agreed that the increase was unjust, promising to play a role in its reversal. Tarar also assured full financial and moral support for the early operationalisation of Rawalpindi Lawyers Hospital, he added.
