Call to intensify anti-dengue drive in Pindi

Prompt action for drainage of rainwater ordered to prevent larvae breeding

RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Engineer Aamir Khattak has said that the current temperature was suitable for the breeding of dengue larvae, asking departments to play their proactive role in anti-dengue activities by ensuring the implementation of the prescribed SOPs.

He also pressed for steps to make the environment and surroundings clean by giving special importance to cleanliness in the anti-dengue campaign. In the wake of the current rain spell, field activities should be increased and rainwater drainage should be ensured timely as stagnant water is a potential spot for dengue larva breeding, the commissioner maintained.

He directed that DERC and TERC meetings be held regularly by respective DCs and ACs and necessary instructions should be issued while critically evaluating the activities of all the departments.

Khattak expressed these views while presiding over the review meeting of the anti-dengue campaign held at the Commissioner's Office.

The District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer (CEO), in his briefing on the current status of dengue in the Rawalpindi district, said the teams of Rawalpindi and Islamabad were jointly conducting solid waste management at the border areas of IJP Road and Express Highway.

Cleanliness of the environment was being given top priority by the concerned government departments, the public was also being actively involved in it so that the risk of dengue breeding could be minimised by keeping the environment clean, he informed the meeting.
