Actor Johnny Depp has paid tribute to his former "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" costar Tamayo Perry, who tragically lost his life in a shark attack last month.

Depp shared his condolences and a heartfelt message on his Instagram Stories on July 28.

The 61-year-old Depp posted a black-and-white photo of Perry with a touching caption: “Even though it was some years ago now, I remember Tamayo well. A lovely man, with a huge heart and zest for life…”

Depp also extended his support to Perry’s wife, Emilia, writing, “I send you all my love and strength. You are in my thoughts.” Alongside his tribute, Depp included a link to a GoFundMe page set up for Perry's family, which had raised $112,643 of its $200,000 goal by the time of reporting.

Perry, who was 49 at the time of his death, was involved in a fatal shark attack while surfing off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii, on June 23. The incident occurred while Perry, an avid surfer and former lifeguard, was enjoying a session in the waters.

In response to the tragedy, Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department expressed the difficulty of the situation, stating, “As you can imagine, this is an extremely difficult time for all of us. I ask for your kindness and your patience as we all just try to get through this next hour into these next weeks and months.”

Tamayo Perry, known for his roles in "Blue Crush" and an episode of "Hawaii Five-O," is remembered as a beloved figure. His wife Emilia created the GoFundMe page, describing him as a “hero” and reflecting on his impact. The page highlights Perry’s legacy, stating, “We all want to be the hero of our own story… Few of us are able to truly be that hero, Tamayo Perry was, is, and will be forever.”
