BCB confident in hosting ICC Women's T20 World Cup despite political turmoil
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is confident in its ability to host the upcoming ICC Women's Twenty20 World Cup as planned, despite the current political unrest in the country.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is closely monitoring the situation, following the government's declaration of a state of emergency last week due to violence and protests.
The ICC Women's T20 World Cup, scheduled from October 3 to 20, will feature ten teams competing in 23 matches over 18 days.
The matches will be held at two venues in Bangladesh: the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka and the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.
"As of today, all I know is that we are hosting the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup as per plan, and we are working accordingly," BCB Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz.
Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, BCB women's wing chairman and a member of parliament from the ruling party, assured that there is no cause for alarm and that there is ample time to organise the tournament successfully. "We are hopeful that everything will be fine in the coming days," Shafiul stated.
He also referenced past instances when international teams visited Bangladesh during challenging times. " The Australians and England team visited here in difficult times earlier when the political situation was quite violent or say when there was corona,," Shafiul noted.
"The situation is not like that and the condition is improving with passing days and we are hopeful about hosting the tournament and we are taking the preparation as per our planning," he said.
