During the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con, studio chief Kevin Feige announced a historic milestone: the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has surpassed $30 billion at the global box office, making it the first film franchise to ever achieve this feat.

This achievement was propelled by the latest MCU installment, "Deadpool & Wolverine," which had a record-breaking opening day for an R-rated film, earning $96 million in North America alone. The film is projected to continue its success, with an estimated global weekend gross of $380 million to $400 million.

The MCU's journey to this milestone began in 2008 with "Iron Man" and has since spanned 34 installments over 15 years, featuring both critical and commercial successes like "Avengers: Endgame" and "Infinity War." Even recent films with lower box office numbers, like "Eternals," "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," and "The Marvels," remain significant successes compared to other studio releases.

This historic accomplishment further solidifies the MCU's dominance in the film industry, leaving other major franchises like "Spider-Man," "Star Wars," "Harry Potter," and "James Bond" trailing far behind.

Directed by Shawn Levy, "Deadpool & Wolverine" unites Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in a time-traveling adventure to save Deadpool's universe. The film also features a star-studded cast including Emma Corrin, Matthew MacFadyen, Rob Delaney, and Leslie Uggams.
