Marvel Studios electrifies Comic-Con with Robert Downey Jr.'s return and more

Marvel Studios delivered a show-stopping performance at San Diego Comic-Con, exceeding fan expectations with a slew of exciting announcements and reveals.

 The biggest news of the night was Robert Downey Jr.'s surprising return to the MCU as the iconic villain Doctor Doom, set to appear in the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Avengers: Secret Wars," directed by the Russo Brothers.   
 

The studio also unveiled details and footage from other highly anticipated projects. "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," directed by Matt Shakman, is set to begin filming soon and promises a retro-futuristic take on the superhero team's origin story. The cast, including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, made a surprise appearance to discuss their roles and the family dynamic of the team.   
 

The first footage from "Thunderbolts" was revealed, showcasing an all-star cast of villains and anti-heroes led by Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova and directed by Jake Schreier.

Additionally, "Captain America: Brave New World" brought a political thriller tone with Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson facing challenges as the new Captain America. Giancarlo Esposito was confirmed to play the villainous King of the Serpent Society, and Harrison Ford made a memorable appearance as President Thunderbolt Ross, teasing his transformation into the Red Hulk.
