Demolition of glaciers starts to ensure tourists’ safety
The Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) has started the demolition of glaciers at various locations in the Kaghan Valley to mitigate the risk of them collapsing and prevent any potential loss of life.
Tourists have also been advised to exercise caution while taking photos near glaciers. Following the report of the dangers posed by melting glaciers, KDA Director General, Shabbir Khan, and KDA Deputy Director Aminul Hassan Khan directed the authority’s technical staff to immediately demolish the melting glaciers.
A few days ago, KDA Assistant Director informed reporters, “We cut seven glaciers along the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road and Lake Road because they became hollow due to the rapid melting of snow in the hot weather.” This measure was taken after two tourists from Punjab were buried alive when a hollow glacier fell on the Saiful Muluk Road earlier this week.
In response, four glaciers, including the Lami Patti glacier, were demolished, and staff were deployed at glacier locations to warn tourists of the dangers. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the risks to the lives of tourists visiting the area.
