KARACHI:

Minister of Energy and Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah inaugurated the 7th International Solar Energy Meet (ISEM) Exhibition at the Expo Centre on Thursday. The three-day event aims to promote solar energy as a viable solution to Pakistan's growing energy needs.

According to the conference organisers, the country's increasing energy demands, coupled with the continuous rise in electricity prices, have exacerbated the problems faced by people. In this context, the development of solar energy is seen as the only way to bring relief.

Speaking to the media after opening the exhibition, the minister said that the government is dedicated to promoting sustainable development. The government is committed to creating a conducive environment for the growth of the renewable energy sector, encouraging private sector investment, and advancing technological innovations in solar energy generation and distribution.

He mentioned that the Sindh government plans to establish solar parks with an aim to supply electricity to the national grid and provide up to 100 units of free electricity to consumers in the province.

He emphasised government's determination to eliminate taxes on solar energy, making the energy sector an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investment.

The exhibition has brought together policymakers, industry professionals, and investors, featuring displays by local and foreign companies showcasing their solar products, equipment including batteries.

Advanced solar technologies and equipment for residential and commercial use are also on display.
