Oil tanker crash near Karachi’s Baloch Colony Flyover leaves one dead

Deceased was identified as 48-year-old Asad Ali Zaidi, a senior editor at a private TV channel

An oil tanker overturned onto a car near Karachi's Baloch Colony Bridge, killing the car’s occupant, Express News reported.

According to a traffic police spokesperson, heavy machinery was called to extricate the car from under the tanker. Rescuers faced difficulties due to the large crowd of onlookers.

Upon receiving the accident report, police and fire brigade units rushed to the scene. After three hours of efforts using a crane, they retrieved the body from the car.

The deceased was identified as 48-year-old Asad Ali Zaidi, a senior editor at a private TV channel. The driver fled the scene following the incident.

Traffic police closed the bridge from Qayyumabad to Baloch Colony to facilitate the rescue operation. Zulfiqar Ali, a fire officer from Manzoor Colony Fire Station, mentioned the risk of fire due to the kerosene spill.

The rescue operation was completed after two and a half hours, and the body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

The tanker could not be removed until it was emptied of kerosene oil, and the fire brigade remained on-site until the tanker was cleared.
