Truck plunges into Indus river

A speeding container truck fell into the Indus river after breaking the protective barriers of Ghazi Ghat.

Local boatmen and the patrolling police rescued the driver from the river.

A vehicle was on way from Lahore to Dera Ghazi Khan when its tyre burst while crossing the Indus river near Dera Ghazi Khan.

The container truck collided with another vehicle and fell into the Indus river after breaking the protective wall.

According to local officials, the driver was rescued because of timely action by the local boatmen and the patrolling police personnel.

Attempts are made till the evening to remove the container from the river by rescue service officials.

However, according to the rescuers, the operation has been stopped due to darkness and would be resumed in the morning.
