Delimitation of tehsils reviewed

Keeping in view the issue of population growth, the Punjab government has decided to make changes in administrative boundaries of tehsils across the province.

A task force formed for the purpose by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz deliberated on the complexity of tehsil boundaries and constituencies across Punjab.

It agreed that changes in administrative boundaries are necessary in view of population growth. Presiding over the meeting, Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq said the delimitation of tehsils will also have to be reviewed during the formation of a new local government system in Punjab.

"Measures are being taken to provide maximum facilities to the people near their homes. In this context, the establishment of new tehsils and local government towns is necessary," he said.

Law Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed said steps were needed in the light of the census data.
