Raptress Tan DaGod, born Alliauna Green, was recently killed shortly after performing at the grand opening of a North Oakland beauty supply shop.

Oakland police have announced the arrest of Dominic Gates, 30, in connection with her murder. Green, 27, who had gained thousands of followers, was killed on July 13, following a performance and music video shoot at Glamor Beauty Supply.

At the time of the murder, Gates was out on his own recognizance while facing a charge for failing to register as a sex offender, stemming from a previous conviction for pimping a teen girl. This charge was filed after he was identified as a suspect in a 2022 shootout that left two people dead.

Green’s death has deeply affected the Bay Area rap scene. Oakland rapper and philanthropist Mistah F.A.B. praised her “ambition, drive and courage,” on Instagram, noting her heart was “big as TEXAS!!!!”

The shooting occurred more than an hour after the event ended, in the parking lot near the MacArthur BART station. Green was involved in a verbal altercation and was shot. A friend took her to a hospital, where she later died. Another woman was injured, though it was unclear if it was from a stray bullet or shattered glass.

Police identified Gates as a suspect after reviewing high-definition surveillance footage. A motive for the shooting remains unclear, as Gates has refused to speak to detectives.

At the time of the killing, Gates was also a suspect in a June 2023 shootout that resulted in two deaths at an East Oakland gas station. Although he never faced charges for the killings, Gates and another man, Sir Cameron Young, were identified by police from social media posts.

Gates denied involvement in the East Oakland shooting, claiming an injury prevented him from being the person in the footage. However, police identified him and Young through their music videos posted online.
