Gary Holt defends Taylor Swift but disses Beyonce
Gary Holt, renowned guitarist from Exodus and Slayer, recently expressed his support for Taylor Swift on the “Scandalous Podcast.”
During the episode aired on July 16, Holt addressed the criticism Swift often faces and praised her dedication and talent.
When host Ashley Steinmetz brought up the "Taylor Swift problem," Holt responded, "I love Taylor Swift. Why all the hate? She's an extraordinarily hard worker. She's super f****** nice to everybody, and people hate her."
Holt continued to commend Swift’s success, stating, "She's just the biggest popstar on Earth, and more power to her. I like the songs. I love pop."
Holt also highlighted Swift’s involvement in her music creation, saying, "Taylor writes everything. And so, I give her credit. She's a songwriter. And some of these other people, they require massive teams."
In contrast, Holt criticized Beyoncé for the large number of collaborators involved in her music.
"Beyoncé will put out a song, and there’s 30 (expletive) people on it. How can 30 people write a song, all gathered together?” Holt questioned. He described this process as a "factory of songwriting," implying a lack of individual contribution.
Holt also took issue with Beyoncé's daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, receiving a Grammy for her contribution to the song “Brown Skin Girl.” "Her daughter got a songwriting credit and a Grammy because she probably threw some (expletive) kindergarten rhyme on one line," Holt remarked.
"She now has one-seventh the Grammys (that) Prince − the greatest artist that ever was or ever will be − ever got."
Holt concluded with his opinion on Beyoncé’s talent, stating, "I think Beyoncé is the most overrated talent on Earth. I think she’s marginally talented."
