Shehbaz sets sights on $60b exports in 3 years

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to boost the country's exports to $60 billion over the next three years and instructed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to ensure timely refunds to exporters.

Chairing a meeting of the National Export Development Board (NEDB), Shehbaz asked the commerce ministry and other relevant departments to take all necessary measures to achieve the export target. He asked the ministry to resolve issues pointed out by exporters and present a report within two weeks.

Shehbaz said that Pakistan's exports crossed the $30 billion mark during the previous fiscal year, and the government's policies also took the IT exports to over $3.2 billion. He paid tribute to the business community and investors for their role in increasing exports despite tough circumstances.

Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the commerce ministry to finalise policy proposals in coordination with representatives of the potential export sectors, while the food security ministry was tasked to improve extension services in coordination with provinces, to enhance agricultural exports.

He instructed for exporting quality seeds and agricultural products after further processing and taking measures to introduce crop varieties with high yields.
