Maura Tierney joins 'Law & Order' for Season 24 as a Lieutenant

Maura Tierney is set to play a lieutenant in Season 24 of "Law & Order," premiering Oct. 3 on NBC.

Maura Tierney will be joining the cast of "Law & Order" for its 24th season. Tierney's character details are yet to be disclosed, but she will be playing a lieutenant. 

The new season of the long-running series is set to premiere on NBC on October 3rd.

Tierney is best known for her role as Helen Solloway in the Showtime drama "The Affair," which aired from 2014 to 2019 and earned her a Golden Globe award. She has also had significant roles on NBC, including playing Lisa Miller in the '90s sitcom "NewsRadio" and Abby Lockhart in the medical drama "ER," appearing from Season 6 through 15.

In film, Tierney has made a mark with roles in "Primal Fear" (1996), "Liar Liar" (1997), and "Primary Colors" (1998). More recently, she appeared in the Showtime legal drama "Your Honor" in 2021 as Fiona McKee and played Doris Von Erich in the 2023 film "The Iron Claw." 

She stars as Grace Poe in the Amazon Prime Video series "American Rust," which released its second season in March, and currently portrays Cathy, mother of Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones).

Represented by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and the Initiative Group, Tierney joins a "Law & Order" cast that includes Hugh Dancy, Tony Goldwyn, Odelya Halevi, Mehcad Brooks, and Reid Scott. 

The show's production is helmed by Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment. Variety reported the exit of Camryn Manheim, who portrayed Lieutenant Kate Dixon, in May.
