Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman made a joint appearance on the red carpet for the world premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City on July 22.

The event marked the debut of the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During the event, Reynolds, 47, and Jackman, 55, spoke to PEOPLE about the experience of bringing their children to the set of an MCU film.

Reynolds, who shares four children with wife Blake Lively — James, 9, Inez, 7, Betty, 4, and a newborn from 2023 — mentioned the unique bond between his youngest daughter and Jackman.

Jackman, who recently separated from Deborra-lee, shares two children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 19.

Reynolds jokingly noted, "I don't profess that my kids are perfectly behaved," adding, "My four-year-old Betty sort of loves Hugh, like unconditionally."

Jackman chuckled as Reynolds continued, "And she expresses that love through unblinking violence. So she attacks him, thinking she has claws and he has a healing factor — which he might."

The red carpet saw Jackman in a dark navy blue suit, while Reynolds opted for a classic black suit paired with a white button-down. Reynolds’ suit jacket featured an embroidered red and yellow heart, reflecting the colors of Deadpool and Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine sees Reynolds and Jackman reprising their roles as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively, teaming up to “defeat a common enemy,” according to the movie’s synopsis. The film features Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Emma Corrin, and Jennifer Garner, with Shawn Levy directing.

Levy, who previously collaborated with Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project, recalled his initial meeting with Reynolds and the strong recommendation from Jackman, who had predicted their lasting partnership back in 2010.

Levy recounted to PEOPLE, “Hugh said, ‘For what it’s worth, if you ever meet and work with Ryan Reynolds, you’re never going to stop.’ That was 2010. Hugh Jackman, the prophet — a little-known special talent.”

The duo's off-screen camaraderie, often showcased through playful social media exchanges, translates into a deep real-life friendship.

Reynolds shared, “We rely on each other for the real kind of advice that you want,” while Jackman noted, “There’s probably fewer friends in our life that you can say anything to, the stuff you’re ashamed, embarrassed, anything.”

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on Friday, July 26.
