Young couple shot, stabbed to death

Adil and Saira had eloped; police suspect woman's brothers committed murders

KARACHI:

A young couple who had run away a few months ago to get married were found dead at their home in Manghopir on Monday.

The bodies of 22-year-old-Adil Noor Muhammad and 20-year-old Saira Luqman Khan bore multiple marks of stabbing and gunshot wounds at the small house they had rented out in a slum to start a life of their own choice.

Police suspect the brothers of the woman committed the murders, however, as usual in the cases of the so-called honour killing, no one in the neighbourhood saw or heard any gunshot or cries of the victims.

Manghopir police station SHO Bashir Vadu said they had received information about the bodies lying inside a house.

On this information, police and rescue personnel reached the spot, collected the evidence, and shifted the bodies to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

SHO Manghopir said that it was found during the initial investigation that the deceased man and his wife were residents of North Nazimabad area of Shahrah-e-Noorjehan and belonged to the Pakhtun community.

They had run away from their homes a few months ago, did a court marriage and were living in Manghopir after renting a house. He maintained that the police suspected that the brothers of the deceased Saira have killed the couple in the name of honour and escaped.

The police raided her house, but no arrests were made. The police have recovered two shells and a bloody knife from the crime scene.
