Punjab deploys AI technology to detect smoke-emitting vehicles

Under the Punjab Safe City Project, AI-driven detection of smoke emissions will be used to issue traffic challans

The Punjab government, led by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), has begun using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to detect and fine vehicles emitting excessive smoke.

Citizens are cautioned that traffic violations will now result in electronic challans with proof and hefty fines.

Under the directive of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz, transport authorities have initiated the process of monitoring smog-emitting vehicles using advanced cameras equipped with AI technology through the Punjab Safe City project in Lahore.

The system targets trucks, buses, cars, wagons, auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles.

The Lahore Traffic Police have issued hundreds of challans based on the AI-driven detection of smoke emissions. Each electronic ticket includes photographic evidence of the violation.

Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that the use of modern technology ensures both environmental protection and strict enforcement of traffic rules.

She vowed to implement this model across Punjab in a phased manner.

Yesterday, a rescue air ambulance successfully transferred a patient for the first time in the country through an initiative undertaken by the Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Halima Bibi, a 40-year-old woman from Mianwali, who suffered paralysis after falling from a roof two days ago was transferred in an air ambulance.
