In the latest episode of "Last Week Tonight," John Oliver delivered a scathing review of the Republican National Convention (RNC) and its celebrity guests.

Filmed on July 20, the episode was recorded before Joe Biden's recent announcement that he would withdraw from the presidential race and endorse Kamala Harris.

Oliver noted the rapid pace of current events, remarking, "The news is moving so fast. We are taping on Saturday, and who knows where things will be by the time you actually watch this?"

The show highlighted Oliver's month-long break, during which notable events included Biden’s health concerns and an assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

The bulk of the episode was dedicated to critiquing the RNC, which Oliver described as featuring a line-up of "D-list celebrities."

He ridiculed Hulk Hogan's shirt-ripping stunt and Kid Rock's performance, which he characterised as poorly received by the crowd. Oliver also commented on the RNC's attempt to impress with an elderly couple reminiscent of the American Gothic painting.

In a particularly humorous segment, Oliver poked fun at Perry Johnson, a failed presidential candidate, who was escorted off stage with the band Smash Mouth’s 1999 hit “All Star” playing.

Oliver quipped about the song's lyrics, “I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed,” highlighting the awkwardness of the moment.
