Eminem has scored his 11th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart (for the week of July 27) with the release of his new studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).

The album debuts at the top with 281,000 equivalent album units sold in the U.S. during the week ending July 18, according to Luminate. This marks the biggest opening week for any rap album in 2024.

Eminem's 11th No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart places him alongside Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, and Ye (formerly Kanye West) for the fifth-most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200. The only artists with more No. 1s are The Beatles with a record 19, Jay-Z and Taylor Swift with 14 each, and Drake with 13.

In the latest Billboard 200 top 10, ENHYPEN, Clairo, and Megan Moroney all make their highest-charting debuts with their newest albums, landing at Nos. 2, 8, and 9, respectively. Meanwhile, after 12 weeks at No. 1, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department drops to No. 4 in its 13th week on the chart.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, as measured in equivalent album units by Luminate. These units include album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). One unit represents either one album sale, 10 individual tracks from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription streams of songs from the album.

Of the 281,000 units earned by The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) in its first week, 164,500 are SEA units, which equates to 220.08 million on-demand official streams from the album’s streaming edition. The album also debuted at No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart. Additionally, 114,000 units come from digital album sales, as it was not released physically, and TEA units total 2,500.

In its first week, The Death of Slim Shady achieved the highest sales for a rap album in 2024. It also ranks as the second-largest digital download sales week of the year, trailing only Taylor Swift’s Poets, which sold 274,000 downloads in its debut week.

Death was available to purchase only as a digital download and was issued widely in both clean and explicit editions, in addition to three further variants sold exclusively in Eminem’s official webstore. Of the latter three, two were sold as a pre-order for a limited time before the set’s release, and each came with their own exclusive bonus track — one with “Kyrie & Luka,” featuring 2 Chainz, and one with “Like My Shit,” featuring FIFTEENAFTER.

A third webstore variant dropped on Wednesday (July 17), carrying both bonus tracks and an exclusive “Steve Berman” skit. The CD and vinyl editions of The Death of Slim Shady are due for release on Sept. 13 and Oct. 25, respectively.

Eminem's latest album was preceded by two Billboard Hot 100 hits that reached the top 40: “Houdini,” which debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the June 15 chart, and “Tobey,” featuring Big Sean and BabyTron, which reached No. 27 on the July 20 chart.
