Eight arrested for abducting playwright

Famous playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar was allegedly abducted, man-handled and robbed after being lured by a woman.

According to an FIR registered at Sundar Police station by the victim, the incident oc-curred on July 15.

The Organised Crime Unit (OCU) has arrested eight suspects in the case.

Qamar stated that he had received repeated calls from a woman who introduced herself as Amna Arooj from England, a fan and interested in shooting a drama with him. She shared with him a location and asked him to see her. As he reached the location, the woman made him sit in a room. However, seven armed men barged into the room, snatched Rs6,000, a phone and an ATM card from him.

He stated that the men also asked him the PIN code of the card and withdrew over Rs200,000 from it.

They also started demanding over Rs10 million in ransom from him. When he told them that he did not have such an amount, they threatened him.

Then man later took him to an unidentified location and made him sit on a road. After some time, more armed men arrived in two vehicles and demanded the ransom.

The complainant made a phone call asking a relative to send him Rs1 million. However, he expressed inability to arrange the money. The abductors then took him to a deserted location and threatened to shoot him.
