Two suspects killed, 18 injured in 17 encounters in a week
Two suspects had been killed and another 18 injured in 17 encounters between police and suspected criminals in different neighbourhoods of the metropolis in the past one week, a police spokesperson claimed on Sunday. As many as 33 suspects had also been arrested in connection with various crimes during the same time period.
Police have stepped up anti-crime operation in the megalopolis which has been plagued by deadly street crime.
At least 22 illegal firearms and 14 motorcycles believed to be involved in criminal activities had also been seized during the encounters, the spokesperson said.
Overall, police arrested over 480 suspects across East, West, and South Zones of Karachi in the past week alone.
The crackdown also targeted drug trafficking, leading to the recovery of huge amounts of narcotics, including 40.298 kilogram of hashish, crystal meth, and heroin worth millions of rupees.
Moreover, the operations yielded 98 illegal weapons and ammunition used in various crimes.
Police efforts resulted in the recovery of 38 stolen motorcycles from different areas of the city during the last week.
