Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman recently disclosed the intriguing tale of securing Madonna's iconic 1989 hit "Like a Prayer" for their upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine during an interview on SiriusXM's Andy Cohen Show.

In an exclusive revelation on Friday, July 19, director Shawn Levy, detailed the journey that led to them meeting Madonna to seek permission to use her classic track in the movie.

"Securing the rights to 'Like a Prayer' was no small feat. It involved a personal visit to Madonna herself, where we showed her the specific sequence in the film where the song would be featured," Levy explained.

Reynolds chimed in, emphasizing the rarity of Madonna licensing her music, especially a song as culturally significant as "Like a Prayer."

"It wasn't just a matter of getting the song; it was a big deal to even ask for it. We had to explain how and why we wanted to use it," Reynolds added.

 

Reflecting on their meeting with Madonna, Reynolds humorously recounted his initial uncertainty about how to address the pop icon. "I asked someone from her team if it's okay to just call her 'Madonna.' It felt like meeting royalty," he quipped.

The negotiation took an unexpected turn when Madonna not only granted permission but also provided valuable insights into the scene where her song would be utilized. "She watched it and gave us a note that truly enhanced the sequence. We acted on her suggestion immediately, and it made the scene even better," Reynolds revealed.

"Madonna's approval and input were invaluable. Her son's admiration for the Deadpool films likely played a role too," Reynolds added, acknowledging the personal connection that may have influenced Madonna's decision.
