Lady Gaga honoured Tony Bennett on the first anniversary of his death with a heartfelt tribute.

On July 20, 2024, Gaga posted a photo on Instagram of Bennett sketching her, which was later used for the cover of their 2021 album, Love for Sale. Bennett, who died on July 21, 2023, at the age of 96, battled Alzheimer's in his final years.

Gaga expressed her gratitude for her ongoing friendship with Bennett’s wife, Susan, and for the jazz community that continues to celebrate his legacy. "It’s been one year since Tony passed away," Gaga wrote.

“This picture says it all. I’m so grateful for my continued friendship with his wife Susan — the legacy of jazz music he left — and for the community of jazz musicians I still work with who all knew and loved Tony. We’re gonna keep on swingin’. Miss you 🖤life is a beautiful thing 💋."

Bennett's dedication to music persisted despite his Alzheimer's diagnosis, which his doctors noted had a positive effect on his condition. "It kept him on his toes and also stimulated his brain in a significant way," said neurologist Gayatri Devi.

Following Bennett's death, his contributions to music were widely celebrated, including tributes from fellow musicians like Billy Joel, who praised Bennett’s passion and kindness.

“He was also one of the nicest human beings I’ve ever known,” Joel remarked.
