SJC asked to remove CEC, ECP members
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh leadership submitted on Friday a formal complaint to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja and five other Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) members.
The complaint, filed by PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, Justice (retd) Noor ul Haq Qureshi, and MPA Muhammad Shabbir, invokes Articles 209 (5) and (6) of the Constitution.
They accuse the ECP officials of failing to uphold their constitutional duties, alleging that PTI’s mandate was “stolen” through rigging in the February 8 general elections and that the ECP misrepresented Supreme Court orders.
Barrister Ali Tahir, who submitted the complaint, charged that the CEC and ECP officials were involved in “pre-election, election day, and post-election rigging.”
The plaintiffs seek an inquiry into their claims, stating that the actions of the defendants have impacted over 120 million voters.
The complaint argues that the ECP wrongfully listed PTI candidates as independents, violating the spirit of the Constitution and Supreme Court directives, and undermining the country’s democracy.
In light of the Supreme Court’s recent verdict on reserved seats, the complainants called for immediate accountability, asserting that the ECP’s efforts to undermine PTI’s mandate were exposed by the court’s ruling.
