Armie Hammer has denied reports that Robert Downey Jr. paid for his six-month rehab stay in 2021, but credits the actor with being a supportive friend during his time of need. Hammer appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Friday, July 19, where he set the record straight about the rehab rumors.

When asked by Morgan if the rehab rumors were true, Hammer said, "No, he did not. He did not pay for me to go to rehab." However, Hammer did credit Downey with being a helpful friend, saying, "He did help me in the way where anyone in Hollywood who suffers from any sort of addiction issues — whether it be alcohol or process addiction or drugs — decides to get sober, that guy will find you, and he will help you. It's amazing."

Hammer also praised Downey for being a source of advice, saying, "Sit down, shut up, everything is going to be OK." The actor also mentioned that he had not heard from Leonardo DiCaprio and Julia Roberts, both of whom have worked with him on past films, but said he was focusing on the people who did show their support.

In addition to Downey, Hammer credited Johnny Depp and Luca Guadagnino, the director of his film Call Me by Your Name, with being supportive during his time of need. Hammer said he has no hard feelings for anyone who hasn't come to his defense, and understands that his situation was "inflammatory" and that anyone who gets too close might also be criticized.
