Capital finalises delimitation of 125 Ucs
As many as 125 union councils (UCs) have been finalised for new local government delimitations in the Islamabad district after a competent authority rejected objections regarding the reduction in UCs, accepting 11 objections related to the inclusion of areas in various UCs.
The new delimitation of UCs in the Rawalpindi district is also in its final stage. By July 22, the delimitation of UCs in all six districts Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, and Murree of the Rawalpindi division will be completed.
These delimitations will be advertised on July 23, inviting objections. Objections will be received from July 24 to August 7, while decisions on the filed objections will be made by August 28. The final notification of the delimitation of all new UCs in the Rawalpindi division will be issued on September 1.
There are currently 46 UCs in Rawalpindi city. As new UCs are being created for a population of 20,000 to 25,000 people, there is a possibility of an increase in the number of new UCs in Rawalpindi.
The appellate authority against 125 UCs of Islamabad was Regional Election Commission Rawalpindi, which has completed its work. The notification of the final list of 125 new UCs in Islamabad will be issued in the ongoing month.
All old UC numbers have been changed due to new delimitations in the federal capital. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has submitted a report to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to conduct local government elections in Islamabad by September 30.
