Cop among 3 killed in two terrorist attacks

Police kiosk in Takhtbhai comes under attack

SOUTH WAZIRISTAN/MARDAN:

At least three people, including a policeman, were killed in two separate incidents in Mardan and South Waziristan Lower tribal districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.

In the first incident, a police constable was killed and two others injured when unidentified miscreants attacked on a police post in Takhtbhai Tehsil of Mardan.

Police told Express Tribune that the terrorists attacked the police kiosk early in the morning with automatic weapons that left Constable Umar Nabi dead and two cops Muhammad Fayyaz and Shabbir injured.

Upon receiving the information, police and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the slain and injured policemen to Takhtbhai Headquarters Hospital. Later, the injured were taken to Mardan Medical Complex.

Police conducted a door-to-door search operation in the area.

Later, the funeral prayer of the dead cop was held in the Mardan Police Lines, and his body was transported to his native area for burial.

In another incident, two people were killed and four other injured in a road side bomb blast in South Waziristan Lower that targeted a pro-government militant group.

According to police, the IED was planted in a motorcycle parked near the security check post in Wana bazaar, and it was exploded through remote control while the vehicle of commander Ainullah was crossing the post.

Sources said that the dead and injured in the blast were passersby, who were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital Wana.

Police started investigating the attack, but no statement has been issued by the administration or police so far to the media.

It is pertinent to mention that the three incidents of terrorism took place in Mardan district in as many weeks, and all these incidents happened on Friday. On the first Friday in July, a remote-controlled explosion took place near Jalala Bridge in Takhat Bhai area, in which three people, including a rickshaw driver, were killed.
