Fitness icon Richard Simmons' death was not the result of foul play, according to a law enforcement source close to the investigation revealed to PEOPLE. Simmons, who passed away at age 76 on July 13th, was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home by his housekeeper.

TMZ reports indicate that Simmons had fallen in his bathroom the night before but refused medical assistance despite feeling dizzy. The following morning, he was found dead next to his bed.

While the exact cause of death is still pending, the lack of foul play brings some clarity to the circumstances surrounding Simmons' passing. His brother, Lenny Simmons, has urged fans to celebrate the joy and love Simmons brought to the world rather than mourn his loss.

Despite retreating from the public eye in recent years, Simmons remained dedicated to helping others and expressed gratitude for life in a rare interview just days before his death. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
