KARACHI:

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that Yutong, the world's largest bus manufacturer, has decided to set up a manufacturing plant for intra-city and electric buses in the metropolitan city.

The decision was made public after a meeting between Yutong Middle East CEO Rabin and Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Thursday.

During the meeting, the Yutong CEO agreed to establish the plant in Karachi following an invitation extended by Sharjeel in July 2022.

According to the senior minister, the installation of the plant is expected to commence within three months and is slated for completion next year.

This move will enable Yutong to manufacture intra-city electric (EV) buses as well as hybrid diesel buses locally.

Sharjeel said that the establishment of this plant will not only bolster local industries but also create new employment opportunities.

He stressed that producing buses locally will contribute significantly to saving foreign exchange reserves and could potentially lead to bus exports, benefiting the national economy.
