Captain America's Russo Brothers return to direct Avengers 5 and Secret Wars for Marvel

In a surprising twist, it seems that Anthony and Joe Russo, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's celebrated directors, are gearing up for an incredible return.

As reported by THR, the directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and the concluding hits of the Infinity Saga, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, are in early discussions to lead the upcoming superhero team-ups, Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Recently, there have been reports that Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool & Wolverine, might have been considered to replace Destin Daniel Cretton as the director for Avengers 5 (previously titled The Kang Dynasty).

However, after an extensive search spanning several months, Kevin Feige appears prepared to enlist assistance from familiar faces to steer the MCU's Multiverse Saga to its conclusion. Michael Waldron, known for writing Loki and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, is handling the script for the next Avengers installment. 

Since their time with Marvel, the Russo Brothers have transitioned to projects such as Cherry, The Gray Man, and the Prime Video series Citadel, establishing a strong track record for delivering successful blockbuster conclusions to storylines.

Avengers: Endgame not only earned a staggering $2.8 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing movie ever (until Avatar: The Way Of Water surpassed it), but it also continues to be celebrated as one of the most highly praised superhero films of the 21st century.

With Deadpool & Wolverine on the horizon, X-Men '97 earning an Emmy nomination recently, Fantastic Four gearing up to transport Marvel's First Family to the 1960s, and thrilling new trailers like Agatha All Along and Captain America: Brave New World teasing upcoming MCU projects for both cinema and television, it appears an exciting new era is on the horizon

Avengers 5 is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars aiming for a May 7, 2027 premiere in theaters.
