Scarlett Johansson reveals secrets of Avengers group text chain: "Everything goes on in there"
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Scarlett Johansson disclosed details about the closely knitted bond among the original Avengers cast members, including their lively group text chain.
The actress, known for her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared insights into the private conversations shared among herself, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo. Johansson expressed a desire for the contents of their group chat to remain confidential.
"Yes, that’s true. But hopefully, nobody will ever read it," Johansson remarked when asked about the existence of the Avengers group text. "Everything goes on in there. I mean, really. If somebody’s gotten terrible reviews, that could be something that comes up."
The Avengers ensemble, which Johansson emphasized as being "like a family," played pivotal roles in Marvel's blockbuster films from 2012 to 2019, culminating in several solo movies for each character. Despite Johansson's departure after her character received a standalone film in 2021's "Black Widow," she highlighted the enduring friendship among the cast.
It takes just a few minutes to hear a response on this group really, commented Johansson on their close bond.
"We’ve been through an incredible experience over a decade plus of time. It was life-changing for all of us," Johansson reflected. "If you text the chain, you can guarantee that within a few minutes, most people will respond, which is great."
Jeremy Renner, who portrayed Hawkeye in the MCU, recently echoed Johansson's sentiments in a Men's Health cover story, affirming the authenticity of their bond beyond the screen.
“Oh, f--- yeah, it’s a real thing — it’s not just for Instagram. We f-----’ hate that s---," Renner stated. "No, we have a family chat and have for a long time. When you work with people — look, we all went through a culturally significant experience together."
Renner added, "In the films, we look like we’re at a costume party, and there’s ridiculous props and we’re doing these ridiculous things, but it’s also beautiful because we’re all connected."
The revelations about the Avengers' group dynamics coincide with Johansson's promotion of her new film "Fly Me to the Moon," currently in theaters.
