Karachi sweats through second hottest night of the month

Met Office notes high humidity levels are making heat feel up to 10 degrees Celsius higher than actual temperature.

KARACHI:

Karachi experienced its hottest night of the month for the second time in July, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Earlier on July 1, the minimum temperature in the city reached 32 degrees Celsius, marking the highest nighttime temperature ever recorded in July for Karachi.

Today's weather in Karachi is expected to remain hot and humid, with the maximum temperature reaching up to 39 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature recorded today was 31.6 degrees Celsius. Rain is also expected in the suburban areas of the city, similar to the previous day.

Additionally, Gulshan-e-Hadeed saw 2 millimetres of rainfall yesterday.

Typically, the average temperature for July in Karachi is 27.9 degrees Celsius, making the recent temperatures 4.1 degrees Celsius above normal.

The meteorological department explained that the incomplete restoration of sea breezes in Karachi has contributed to the sustained heat. High humidity levels have further exacerbated the heat, making it feel even more severe.

Regarding the much-awaited monsoon spell, the Met Office indicated that a new spell would impact Sindh, including Karachi, from July 18 or 19.

Although Karachi saw some scattered rainfall earlier last week, residents have continued to endure high temperatures in recent days.

With a sea breeze blowing at 18 kilometres per hour, the maximum temperature in the city is expected to range between 34°C and 36°C. The minimum temperature recorded was 30.5°C.
