Former Formula One racer Ralf Schumacher comes out as gay

Former Formula One racer Ralf Schumacher revealed that he is gay in a heartfelt social media post.

Schumacher, 49, who is a grand prix winner and hails from a family of F1 drivers including his older brother Michael Schumacher and stepbrother Sebastian Stahl, announced on Instagram on Sunday, July 14, that he is in a relationship.

The post featured a picture of Schumacher with another man, Etienne, embracing each other as they watched the sunset over the ocean. "The most wonderful thing in life is having the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything," Schumacher wrote in the caption, translated from German to English.

Schumacher's post received an overwhelming amount of support from friends and family, including his 22-year-old son, racer David Schumacher. "I am very happy that you have finally found someone with whom you really feel that you feel very comfortable and secure, no matter if you are a man or a woman, I am 100% behind you dad and wish you all the best and congratulations," he wrote in the comments of his father's post.

As reported by CNN, Schumacher was formerly married to Cora Brinkmann, the mother of his son David.

Carmen Geiss, a close friend of the couple, also wrote a heartfelt message in the comments of Schumacher's post. Translated from German, Geiss said, "I LOVE YOU BOTH SO MUCH. You have the best partner, Etienne, you can imagine. After 2 years you can finally show your love to the world."
