Bill Maher calls Trump 'the luckiest motherf—er on Earth' after assassination attempt
On Saturday night, comedian Bill Maher took the stage at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, where he addressed the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.
In a video posted from the show, Maher made his stance clear: “I so unequivocally denounce [the assassination attempt]. I don’t care what you think about that,” he said.
“Not funny. I’m sure there will be jokes that people will make because they hate him so much that they wish it went the other way. Not for me.”
Maher continued, “Whoever was the shooter has done so much damage to the left. Lost a lot of moral high ground in the ‘you’re the violent people.’ You know, ‘liberals don’t shoot people, liberals don’t solve it that way.’”
The FBI identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed by the Secret Service following the attempt on Trump’s life.
Reflecting on the incident, Maher criticized the broader implications of political violence and touched on the 2025 Project, a plank of the Republican Party platform.
He remarked, “This shit has got to stop because none of this violence happens in a vacuum.”
In his response on Truth Social, Trump described the event, stating that a bullet “pierced the upper part of my right ear,” leading to significant bleeding.
Despite the severity of the situation, Trump assured his followers that he was okay.
“I’m glad he’s okay,” Maher said.
He added humorously, “Trump, I gotta say, is the luckiest motherf—er that has ever walked the face of the Earth.”
Maher reflected on Trump’s political career and the fortunate turns he has experienced, emphasizing the chaotic nature of political campaigns and the unexpected turns they can take.
“When I saw that photo of him today with the blood streaming down his face, I don’t want to say the election is over but… Anything can happen in an election. But Jesus Christ, MAGA nation finally got its martyr.”
