Shannen Doherty said she got her strength from ‘determined’ mother Rosa

Shannen Doherty, known for her role in Beverly Hills 90210, passed away at age 53 on July 13 after battling cancer. 

In a 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Doherty reflected on her mother Rosa's influence, describing her as a source of resilience since childhood. 

"I come from a woman who was determined," Doherty shared about her mother, who faced a brain aneurysm when Doherty was young. "She impressed that upon me... like, 'You don't give up.'" 

Throughout her health challenges, Doherty leaned heavily on her family, particularly her mother. "I don't think that there's a decision that I make that I don't take [my mom] into consideration," she expressed gratefully.

Doherty frequently shared her admiration for Rosa on social media, celebrating her mother's 76th birthday with heartfelt messages and posting cherished moments together. 

Despite her own health battles, Doherty prioritized easing her mother's burdens, reflecting on the emotional process of downsizing her belongings. "It was really hard and really emotional," she admitted, giving up her dream of building a property in Tennessee to simplify her mother's life.

On July 14, PEOPLE confirmed Doherty's passing, citing her publicist Leslie Sloane, who emphasized Doherty's close bond with family and friends during her final moments. 

"The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace," Sloane concluded.
