12k rescuers deployed for Muharram

LAHORE:

Over 12,000 rescuers will be deployed during Muharram to provide rescue and medical cover to 1,029 processions and events throughout Punjab. These rescuers will work in three shifts at 1,029 key points established across the province.

The deployment includes 1,352 Motorbike Rescue Service units, 580 emergency ambulances, 168 fire vehicles, and 35 rescue vehicles distributed throughout all districts of Punjab.

Additionally, 1,029 specialised rescue teams will be positioned at major procession venues to offer emergency cover during Muharram.

For the general public, 285 ambulances, 832 motorcycles and 48 rescue vehicles will be stationed at various rescue stations across Punjab. All districts have begun implementing contingency plans to provide emergency cover to sensitive localities identified in District Emergency Board meetings.

Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of the Emergency Services Department, reviewed Rescue 1122’s arrangements to provide emergency cover to mourning processions of Ashura in all districts of Punjab. He also assessed the monitoring and quick response mechanisms of district control rooms and the Emergency Operation Centre at Rescue Headquarters in Lahore.

Dr. Naseer directed all DEOs to restrict leaves for rescuers and implement Code Red on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
